Clio is one of many small townships, villages and cities considered part of the greater Flint area. Home to approximately 3,000 residents, Clio is a dynamic residential community located along the I-75 corridor about 10 miles north of Flint. Clio covers approximately 1.1 square miles and is surrounded physically by Vienna Charter Township, which has nearly 10 times as many people as Clio. The town is located halfway between Flint and Saginaw and is known as a bedroom community for Flint. It has a significant manufacturing industry and a number of small businesses and is also a growing cultural center. The name “Genesee” means “beautiful valley,” a description that certainly applies to Clio and the surrounding area. The natural beauty of the local countryside lends an especially peaceful, secluded atmosphere to the city’s already appealing environment. The Clio Area Parks and Recreation Department maintains several lush city parks, such as Clio City Park and Thetford Mini-park, for residents to enjoy. Education is also a priority and Clio boasts its own area school district. All schools in Clio are accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
